Setting Up Wireless Internet

How I went from geek to great and saved $150 bucks doing it myself

Setting up wireless internet at home was not at all difficult for me to accomplish. Plug this into that, plug that into this... a few questions and answers later I was online! I have no special skills or training in electronics. In fact, the only skill that qualified me to get the job done was my ability to read the directions and follow them.

Don't be scared!

I naturally assume I can do anything (what man doesn't, right?) but when I told my wife "I can hook up our wireless" I wasn't just puffing my chest out being a guy. I wasn't just being cheap, not willing to pay the $150 to have someone come do it. I really could do it. You can too!

Wireless Internet GuideI saved one hundred and fifty dollars (the going rate in my area) setting up wireless internet myself. I also saved having to take a day off from work to wait for someone to show up for the installation. I went from being a geek to being great because I successfully installed it myself and saved more than the cost of upgrading our equipment to go wireless.

I love it when things work out the way I want them to.

Wireless Internet GuideAs easy as I found it to be, a lot of people are still intimidated when it comes to computers and electronics in general. Remember the VCR and how many people never got it to stop flashing 12:00?!

Setting up wireless internet seems to affect people the same way as programming a VCR did. A lot of people are more than willing to fork over $150 to take a day off work, then sit and wait for someone to show up and install your wireless internet.

Not me!

Is there a sign on my back?!

Okay, so I'm at work and I work with a whole room of people using what? Computers! A room full of people using computers when suddenly they aren't working right.

You would think at least one of them would know something about computers, but noooooo!

I see that it is a fairly simple problem and offer to take care of it. The repair tech they called charges $75 per hour and he couldn't be there until hours later. I become the impromptu computer tech and moments later we are back online. You think I got as much as a thank you?! Actually yes, they did thank me. Then they went out to dinner with the 75 bucks they saved and I got nothing.

From that moment on when anything went wrong with the computers or even if someone was having a bad hair day I became the "answer man" who could save the day! Oh yeah, and I saved the company big bucks not having to call a repair technician. You think I get as much as a thank you?! Actually yes, they do thank me. Then they go out to... well, you know the rest of that story.

Funny thing though, watch how mad they get when I tell them I can no longer be their free repair technician.

It is my pleasure to help!

I love helping my friends and family. If they have a problem I am happy they have faith in my abilities and call me to help them.

I enjoyed helping my coworkers and being a team player. I am happy my employers had faith in my abilities and called me to help them.

Since I can only be in one place at one time there are often times when I just can't be there to help, and so...

Wireless Internet Guide is born!

When too many people have too many questions all I can do is help out the best I can or write it down, keep it non-technical, and send them off to do it themselves.

It works for them, it will work for you too.

Hope you find something here that helps you answer your questions about setting up wireless internet.
