Mobile wireless internet puts the world at your fingertips! Surf the web, take, watch, and share videos and pictures, instant messaging, get directions, get found with gps... that's not even counting what you can do with the many thousands of apps in the palm of your hand.
With a good smart phone and some basic knowledge on how to access the web you're in control, limited only by your ability to figure out how to actually be smarter than your smart phone.
You don't really have to be smarter than your phone to get the most out of it. In all that I use my phone for I don't even tap the full power of it. I generally learn how to use the phone long before I own it, but if I ever need to learn or relearn something the answer is right there in my hand.
The first thing you need to figure out is what is available in your area. Find out what providers are available where you live, work, and play, then see what those providers offer. No sense in salivating over the latest touch screen if it's not offered in your area.
Mobile wireless internet comes in many different shapes, sizes, and colors, each with their own advantages and disadvantages to consider. Reliability of the coverage and features vary from provider to provider.
Begin by thinking about what you want to be able to do with your smartphone, then find a device and a provider that best gives you what you want.
Make it easy to be happy with what you get by putting some thought into it first.
Here's a look at the current top 4 mobile wireless internet providers and what they have to offer. Click on their pages below to see if they offer services in your area:
Prices shown above are what I figured out by building comparable plans for each provider that included minutes, unlimited internet, and text messaging. Information based on a search in the 49548 zip code on January 29, 2010. Other terms and conditions apply so read before you sign any contracts. Prices, plans, networks, and phones may vary in your area.
Smarter Than A Smart Phone?
I've been using "smart phones" for several years now and I hardly use all of the phones capabilities. I use email, calendars, and task lists daily. I use memos, take lots of pictures, search the web, use Google maps, do instant messaging from AIM, Yahoo, and Google Talk. I also send and receive lots of text messages and view web pages. Oh, I also use the phone now and then, probably the least out of everything my Palm Pre can do.
I counted 55 "smart phones" offered through just the top 4 cell phone service providers. That number increases almost daily, and the phones get smarter and smarter. Like a computer, the best advice is to figure out what you need to do with your phone then find a phone that serves that need. A few extra bells and whistles doesn't hurt either. Who doesn't like having the coolest phone?!
You read it right, the six largest mobile application stores combined offer up a total of over 183,000 apps. There truly is a mobile wireless internet application for that. You know what I mean!?
Browsing thousands of apps for that one must-have thumb buster isn't my idea of fun... until I find it. The last app I downloaded was free - almost 30% of the apps available out there in app land are freebies. Who doesn't like free?!
