Freebies! Who doesn't like freebies?! Contests and giveaways are being offered all the time. It's a great way to draw traffic to websites and it's good for those of us who like to enter and win stuff. Naturally, since this website is focused on internet, wireless, electronics, and all that good gadgety stuff, those are the details I will share most. You will also find contests that give away cash, gift cards, and other sweet prizes.
As I write this I am entered in several giveaways to win Apple iPads, Apple iPhone 4S, cash, gift cards, a trip to Hawaii, Superbowl tickets, plus various other useful and desired apps and accessories. I like freebies.
You will normally only need to register with a valid email address. That often also means you will authorize them to send you emails in the future, probably with offers. If you don't want to receive the offers you can wait until the contest is over (hopefully you win!) and then opt out of the offers - easily done usually through a link at the bottom of the emails. Sometimes you can even uncheck a box when you register and opt out of email right from the start.
I recommend you sign up for and use a new email address (Hotmail, Google, etc) for entering contests and other registering needs on websites. That way you can save your home email address for friends and family and won't have to fill your inbox with offers you may or may not have an interest in.
You will also have to meet the entry qualifications so always read the rules, even if you don't want to.
Most giveaways and contests I look for are those with no purchase necessary. No participation (another word for purchase) should be necessary either. I stay away from those so-called giveaways that want you to spend a certain amount before you will be entered into the drawing. That's not a giveaway, that's a trade: your money for a chance to win.
Sometimes you will find legitimate contests that automatically enter you in a drawing after you've made a purchase. If you're making a purchase anyway, why not?! Otherwise, I do not enter if it means taking out my wallet.
